Title – Sea Change
Author – Veronica Henry
Main characters –
Other characters –
Jenna is known as The Ice Cream Girl. She doesn’t mind the name one bit. After all, it’s a happy name, and there are far worse jobs than selling ice creams on Everdene beach.
Craig spends as much time as he can at the beach hut in Everdene he rents with a few of his mates. As a policeman, it is a restful change from his daily life, and he’s surfing mad. One weekend he’s down there on his own when he notices a girl on the beach. He’s young, free and single and she catches his eye.
But on this particular summer weekend, both Jenna and Craig’s lives are about to change . . .

My thoughts –
Jenna ended up losing her job, due to her boss being a gambling addict, leaving her without money to pay her rent. This really got to me, as I know if I was to have worked by butt off, and then was laid off without being paid, I’d have been so angry, frustrated and upset.
Jenna was already behind on her rent payments, and had promised to pay it this week, the actual day she lost her job, which of course meant she was no longer able to. When faced with her landlord, she couldn’t apologise enough and was threatened with eviction. Which she could really do without, as she wished to prove to her mother she could make it without her to rely on. I feel this is what most children feel like when they have their own lives to lead.
Jenna’s landlord had agreed to give her the weekend to sort something out, after much convincing.
She was weighing all possibilities in her head on how to get money together. She considered selling herself, singing in a competition in a pub, then stealing, something which her family specialized in. It was the stealing she concluded with. This made me feel very uncomfortable. It really goes to show what lengths you go to to raise/ collate money together.
I would recommend this book to a new reader.
